History
of Star of the Sea Parish
Since
the first Catholic Church was built in Brookings in 1923 by
Father James Carrico, the parish has grown by many
family additions.
The
present day church location was chosen by Father Daniel Kolasinski
when he became pastor in 1977. Actual construction began on September
15, 1978, by the Jerry Thom
Construction Company and was completed in about 200 days.
The
dedication was held on June 17, 1979, and was presided over by the Most
Reverend Cornelius M. Power, Archbishop of Portland.
The
current pastor, Father Joseph Bosch , is carrying on the long
tradition of dedication and service started by the many wonderful
priests before him.
